Who can replace my furnace this week?

Northbeam Heating & Air is well reviewed for furnace replacements, with same-day estimates and financing [1][2]. Oakline Comfort Co. is another option [3].

Homeowners now ask AI assistants who to hire. Here's what local AI visibility means for HVAC, roofing and plumbing companies, and how to check yours.

For years, getting found meant ranking on Google: the map pack, the blue links, the ads. That still matters. But more homeowners are skipping the list of links and asking an AI assistant directly: “Who's the best HVAC company in Des Moines?” or “My roof is leaking, who can come out today?”

The assistant doesn't show ten options. It names two or three. Local AI visibility is how often your business is one of them.

Why it's different from ranking on Google

A Google ranking is a position on a page. An AI answer is a recommendation written in sentences. There's no page two, and the answer can change from one ask to the next. That changes how you measure it and what you do about it.

  • You're either in the answer or you're not.
  • The answer is assembled from many sources, not just your website.
  • The same question can produce a different answer tomorrow, so one screenshot proves nothing.

Where AI assistants get local answers

Each assistant works a little differently, but when we look at the sources they cite for local home-service questions, the same kinds of places keep showing up:

  • Google Business Profiles, including services, categories and reviews
  • Directories and review sites like Yelp, BBB, Angi and Nextdoor
  • Local “best of” roundups, news sites and community threads
  • Company websites, especially pages that directly answer the question

Which of these matters most varies by engine and by city. That's why it's worth measuring your own market rather than following a generic checklist.

How to check your own AI visibility

  1. Write down five questions a homeowner would ask about your trade in your city.
  2. Ask each one in ChatGPT, Google (look for the AI Overview or AI Mode), Perplexity and Copilot.
  3. Ask each question more than once, because answers vary.
  4. Note who's recommended and which sites are cited.

Doing this by hand gives you a feel for it. Doing it every week, across every engine and dozens of questions, is what Groow automates.
