Get recommended by ChatGPT: the checklist
ChatGPT doesn't rank websites. It reads a handful of sources and names the businesses they agree on. Nobody can promise it'll recommend you, but these six steps are what moves it.
1. Let it read your site
Check that your robots.txt (yoursite.com/robots.txt) doesn't block OAI-SearchBot, and that your firewall or security plugin doesn't either. The free AI crawler checker does it in 15 seconds.
2. Say what you do, the same way everywhere
One sentence: what you do, for whom, and where. Use it on your homepage, your Google Business Profile, LinkedIn and the directories you're listed on.
3. Fix what it gets wrong
Ask ChatGPT about your business by name. Wrong hours, towns or services? Fix them at the source: your website, your Google profile and your directories.
4. Get onto the sites it cites
Ask ChatGPT your customers' questions (“best [service] in [city]”) and note the websites it links to. Get listed or mentioned there: directories, review sites and best-of lists.
5. Answer the question in the first line
Put a one- or two-sentence answer to each page's main question at the top. Then add an FAQ for the questions people ask. To find them, use this filter in Google Search Console (Performance → Search results → Add filter → Query → Custom (regex)):
Search Console question filter
^(who|what|when|where|why|how|which|can|does|is|should)\s
6. Earn reviews, and reply
Ask every customer and reply to every review. Reviews that name the service give AI something specific to say about you.
Measure it
Ask the same 10 questions every month and count how often you're named. Answers change every time you ask, so one check isn't enough.
