The listing check

Google and AI assistants see every version of your business online and have to guess which one is real. This check makes them all match. It takes an afternoon.

1. Write down the one exact version

  • Name: your real business name, with no added keywords (“Smith Heating & Air”, not “Smith Heating & Air | Best HVAC Des Moines”).
  • Address: one format, the same everywhere (Suite or #, abbreviations or not).
  • Phone: one main number. Keep call-tracking numbers off your main listings.
  • Website: one address (https, with or without www: pick one).

2. Fix these first

  • Your website: the footer and the contact page.
  • Your Google Business Profile.
  • Apple Business Connect (Apple Maps).
  • Bing Places.

3. Then find the old versions

Search Google for each of these

"[business name]" "[phone]" "[business name]" "[old address]" "[old phone]"

Fix every listing that comes up, starting with Yelp, Facebook, BBB, Nextdoor, Angi or your industry's main directory, and your local chamber of commerce.

4. The rules

  • Edit or claim the listing that's already there. Never create a second one: duplicates confuse Google.
  • If you moved, update the old listing's address instead of closing it.
  • Note the date you fixed each one, and check again in three months.
