The multi-location checklist
For a business with more than one location. Work through it one location at a time.
1. Which locations get a Google Business Profile
- A location customers visit, staffed during the hours you list: yes.
- A base your team drives out from to serve an area: yes, as a service-area profile (show the area, hide the address if customers don't visit).
- A mailbox, virtual office or rented desk nobody staffs: no. Google's guidelines don't allow it.
2. Set up each profile the same way
- The same business name on every profile: the one on your sign and paperwork. The town goes in the address, not the name.
- Its own local phone number and its own hours.
- A link to that location's page on your website, not your homepage.
- The same main category for locations that do the same work, then the services each one really offers.
- Real photos from that location: the building, the team, the vans, the jobs.
3. Give each location its own page
- Its name, address and phone, exactly as on its Google profile.
- The towns it serves, and its hours.
- Proof you work there: a few real jobs with your own photos, and a review from a customer of that location.
- Linked from your main service pages.
4. Manage them together
- Put every location in one business group in Google Business Profile, so the right people can manage them all.
- With 10 or more locations of the same business, you can request bulk verification instead of verifying each one.
5. Reviews, posts and checks, per location
- Ask each location's customers to review that location, and reply to every review.
- Post on each profile about that location: a finished job nearby, a seasonal offer, a new team member.
- Check each profile regularly. Google and the public can suggest edits, and a changed phone number or category can go unnoticed for months.
6. Track rankings from each location
- Check each keyword from each location, not from your own desk. Google shows results for where the searcher is.
- Decide per keyword: every location, one location, or not local.
- Track the map separately, from a grid of points around each location.
- When one location lags, the fix is usually local to it: its page, its profile, its reviews, its local links.
